Default powder coating parts

I have a Vivid black SG and I want to powder coat some parts gloss black. I have some questions:

1. Should I send my stuff to a well known powder coating company (and if so who?) or use my unknown local guys? I'm located in colorado.

2. Should I use a powder coating with polyester in it?

3. Has anyone powder coated the entire dash? Would it be better to paint or? what about the lock?

Thanks.

I had a bunch of stuff done by PowederPro.com, whom I met here. Call Joe.

I painted my inner fairing vivid black (super big improvement) then had Joe powder the control housings and clutch and brake perches gloss black. Looks great.

I keep thinking I need tp do something with that ugly lock

I was wondering the same for my front crash bar. Better to try a local guy Vrs. sending or mailing it back and forth OR even just buying a black one...

your local guy would be better so you have a recourse if you aren't happy, plus you don't have to box up your parts and pay and wait for shipping. talk to him first and find out how he does parts, there are ways to do it right and ways to cut corners - someone here went thru the process in another post.

thanks for the advice. I think I will go with the local guys as they have done a ton of custom bikes.

Can't go wrong w/Joe (AKA "The Powder Pro")...he definitely knows his profession and I didn't have any problems w/part shipments. Real easy process...fill out a form, send-in, wait, receive and re-install. Not saying local coaters are bad, but some do it as a "hobby" and for JRK it's his "profession."

Since the process heats the parts, I don't think powder coating the dash is a good idea, besides paint cleans easier IMHO

I know guys who do it in their garages using an old stove they got off Craigslist.... it isn't hard to do.

The hard part is the preparation.... powder over chrome is an issue as you need to have some surface "tooth" for it to grab onto.

Personally I would send any chrome parts out to be put in a tank and the plating removed, then I would sand out any defects in the base material, and then hand it to someone who can degrease and bake them prior to applying the powder and putting it in for a bake cycle.

My rice bike has a bunch of powder coated parts, I used a local shop in Derry NH (Goodhues) and the stuff has held up for 5 years plus now... including the wheels and swing arm
