Yes it helps. I put in Hogtunes that I got used. They made a good difference, but then I wanted to add an amp to make it sound even better. So I added a used Hogtunes amp, now I'm going to take it all out and upgrade it all to something better. Just saying, be careful you could start a mess! Haha.
Also, just a tip. If you replace the speakers be careful screwing down the new ones, if the screws resist slow down. When I did mine the screws overheated the plastic and "bubbled" the inner fairing!
IMO, no. When I had my 2009 SG I replaced the stock speakers with a set from Hawgwired. The speakers were a definite improvement with the bike on the side stand and up to 45 mph. At 55mph and above the Hawgwired speakers were no better than stock. Install an amp with the speakers.
IMHO, it does make just a little difference. Adding an amp will make a greater impact. Hogtunes' product is a good buy, very good customer service and they do last long.
I changed my stock speakers on my '07 EGC to 6.5 inifinity cs (components). Certainly a noticeable difference, but then add the Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 amp and now it is night and day. It has been a couple years now, but the amp was $130, the speakers were $100, the adapter rings were $40 and then about $30 of wire, fuses etc to install. It was only about a 4 beer install if i recall right.
I like to ride with ear plugs, the yellow foam ones. When I forget to put them in my stock UC stereo really sucks. With them it it sounds a whole lot better. Cheapest upgrade you could do.
2010 CVO Ultra, system already has the stock Harley amp that's only 40 watts I think....anyway changed the 4 speakers to the MM651's and used polyfill in the enclosures. Was it noticeably better? Yeah, dollars vs sound difference...not really.
Lets face it, with the wind noise, traffic around you, motor/exhaust noise, distance from the speakers, acoustics of the faring, the only thing that will make a big difference in sound quality is adding an amp.
If you want an instant return....use a set of headphones, or earbuds (illegal in my area) they cancel out all the above noise and make you stereo sound like a concert hall.

Yea , there is a lot of friction on them I have seen the screws break as well as the plastic in the fairing. Put a small drop of oil on them first and its a piece of cake.
