Just got the call that my 07 FLHRC (Vivid Black) is in and having the PDI done before pick-up. Picking up end of the week. Wife says I wasn't this excited when any of our three kids were born. I told her that they weren't 732lbs. Won't sleep all week.

My question is, although I've had other scoots, this is my first bagger. What should I make sure to check over when I pick up from the dealer and what should I look out for in the first few hundred miles, e.g.; loose bolts from vibrations, retorquing, etc.

Will be adding V&H ovals, K&N 3909, and PCIII once I've warmed her up a little. Already have a mustang solo in the box waiting to be installed. Thanks to some of the posts here and ideas, I'll definitely be "tweaking" how my bags are mounted to atleast slowdown the dirtbagz. I'll post some picks when shes here.

I don't know what others will say, but I either don't remember having any 'break-in' period quirks, or I just was lucky and didn't have any. I remember once on an earlier bagger I had to take her back right away because it had a twisted gasket inside the derby cover and as a result had a VERY slow leak (more like a weep, actually).

Have fun! I wouldn't be sleeping all week either.

 

Yea, I don't remember any break in issues either. Everything held tight and is still running great.

One year and 7,000 miles later, the only thing that had to be tightened were the three screws holding the windshied into the Batwing. Every critical fastener remains as tight as the day I picked up my bike back in May of '06. Other than that, several minor warrenty issues that were taken care of by my dealer. These issues were not typical of baggers. Could occur on any type of bike.

The first accessory any new bagger owner should pick up is the Harley airshockpump.




It makes checking and adjusting the airshocks a 2 minute affair and is small enough to keep in your bag without taking up any room.

 

Good call, I second that. Riding two up you will want to play with the air adjustment until you are both happy.

 

Just a thought. When you pick the bike up initially and after every visit to the dealer, look it over very carefully to make sure there are no issues etc. I just picked up my RG from a dyno this week and went over it before I drove away and found two scratches in my windshield. Idiots.... of course the mechanic said oh I didn't do that. I stood my ground and told them I'd installed the windshield and it was perfect when I brought the bike in. Make a long story, my new windshield has been ordered and I am sure the mechanic will be paying for it. Just a word to the wise and my two pennies.

 

A few other "to do" items before you ride off the dealer's lot...

[ul][*]Assuming you have the factory security system, be sure and get the disarming PIN from your salesperson or service manager. Then as soon as you get home and have read through your owners manual (you ARE going to read the manual, right??) reset the PIN to your own choice.[*]Make sure you get 2 key fobs.[*]Check the air pressure in your times. I have taken delivery of several bikes where the pressure was seriously over or under inflated. (The $6.50 an hour make-ready "techs" at my primary HDdealer tend to inflate the tire to whatever the max PSI is listed on the sidewall.)[*]If you have the air suspension pump handy, you might check the pressure in the shocks - especially if you'll be riding 2-up away from the dealer.[*]Make sure you get the full toolkit and manuals. (They usually are in the left saddlebag.)[/ul]
