disappointed at the lack of paint choices for 2015 models -- especially RGS why do most if not all manufacturers do this -- have certain colors on certain model Trims only -- & dont tell me that will come out next year either--looking @ Harleys web site if you go to Touring they show a Green Road Glide --but when you actually go to the Model you cant find it--BTW -- i looking to buy a new Bike for 2015 -- HAD TO VENT
I hear you on that. I bought a denim black RGS but really like the mysterious red but you can't get that color in the special. I think you should be able to get the bike in any color they have to offer. I do love the denim black though.
I always thought when they have a year that they come up with a lot of engineering improvements they limit the paint choices to be able to use as a sales tool the next year.
I am with you on the paint choices, guess I am boring, I would like to see a white Limited.
For the past 2 weeks I have been looking at 2015 CVO Limited's and while they are nice looking bikes I just think the for $40K, HD could do a little better. Maybe I asking too much or too hard to please, just waiting for 1 of the 3 being offered to speak to me and it hasn't happened yet.
additional paint choices are often added mid-year. so wait for the color your want or for something else that appeals to you*.
the Minds in marketing are trying to drive demand and brand/ model identity.
2.) the $350,000,000 paint plant is about running full out. Sales have come up and will be over 250,000 units this year.
Painting is best done in batches, rather than "stop the presses" and jelly bean the paints.
Once the dealer floors are full of models, they can start to do other than black bikes. all those boring colors are the ones which have a wider appeal
There is a custom paint program you can ask the dealer about, but that will require cash and a wait.**
and a local painter can always come up with a one of a kind that meets the owners desires

* my Pal bought a 2011 FLHTK in 2 tone root beer, partly because the paint job was "Limited"...come mid-year they offered the same paints, but flip flopped on the Ultra- my Pal was pissed...his $5000 extra for a Limited was no longer so exclusive.
** My FLF is a custom order color: Glamour Green.

I hear you and agree with the rant, I too was looking to buy a new RG. The only color that I liked was the Mysterious sunglow but it wasnt available on the RG Special. I even thought of going to a batwing, a limited, and an UC, but nothing got me smitten and I wasnt going to force something I may like with a ton of money added in. I wanted something unique so not every 4 out of 10 bikes are the same color, and in 4 years is the color going to be dated or will I be sick of it. My 07 was redfire pearl, and that too was unique because there wasnt that many out there.
Looked at the new CVO and besides the $42k OTD, I didnt like all the chrome and gingerbread, so I looked and looked and traveled around the west and southwest and found a perfect for me 2012 CVO RG custom in candy cobalt (only about 600 made)for $25k. The best part is I would have had to spend another $10k to get the 15 where I liked it, andd this CVO had everything I wanted including the 110.
