Default Changing fork lowers

Tomorrow morning I'm going to change out my stock lowers for chrome ones on my 2009 street glide. I have a few questions. do the forks have to come completely off or can I do them while on the bike? does everything have to come apart? I bought new seals and the bolts and washers that go into the bottom(the ones you might have to use an impact gun on)and new type E fluid. anything else(new bushings, springs, etc....?)

You won't be able to separate the tubes from the lowers if you do not remove / It takes a good hard jerk to separate and if your just useing a stand I wouldn't think you would have the room .

I've replaced several sets of lowers. It is easier to remove them form the bike. Make sure you have a pvc pipe that will slide over fork tube so you can seat the fork seals. Good luck.

Sometimes a wooden broom handle is handy to keep the damper tube from spinning inside the lower leg.

Completely disassemble and then reassemble one leg at a time so if it goes together wrong you will still have a stock leg to disassemble and find your mistake.Been there, done that

I've done about 6 different sets of chrome lowers. It's a fairly easy job. Use the lower triple tree as a vise to initially loosen the fork tube cap. Also you'll have to really muscle that cap back on as well.
