Default SE Clutch Spring How-To ?

I thought I read somewhere in this forum that you can replace the clutch spring for the heavier SE spring by just pulling the derby cover instead of the whole primary. Is that true? I've searched and searched, but can't find the thread. I have a 2012 Limited and wanted to do this mod after my cam install.

That is true I did it on my 2013 Ultra Limited it took 30 minutes, very easy. go to shop ronnies hd online and look up the part on the OEM parts finder and pick out what year and bike you have then look up clutch assembly and you can see how it all goes together here is the link. http://www.shopronniesharleydavidson.com/index.htm

I always use YouTube and think??? this may be what you are looking for??? FWIW I had a Barnett Scorpion clutch installed in my bike and will never look back. Problem is it looks so sweet you hate to cover it up with a derby cover.

im pretty sure you have to pull the whole outer primary cover to change the clutch spring. which is no big deal anyway. someone correct me if im wrong.

Just did this to mine. Primary does have to come off. Not difficult, follow the manual.

Yes the primary cover needs to be removed, I was able to reuse my primary gasket so its not really much more trouble than removing the derby with the exception of removing your foot rests.

Can someone tell me the rating of the OEM spring on my once 96" 09 SG? Thanks

I'm changing springs this winter when I do the comp, and need to pick the replacement. Motor may get new heads, too (then I'm done).

Some will, some won't.
You might lucky and slide in a spring without removing the outer but if you don't the gasket can be re-used after some careful cleaning and a light coating of clear RTV.

I could not get the spring out of the derby on mine, but the touring models may be different?
