Default Stupid starting question

Just shipped my 2002 Road King Classic. Loaded it on the trailer, fooled around with the security fob, but thought it turned off.

Now it's down in Arizona and bike is dead. They recharged the battery but when they turn on the ignition the oil light and alarm (key) light are on for a few secs but then go off.

I don't have the passcode, just the two key fobs.

Thanks,
JB

Did you change the fob batteries?

Try taking it out of transport mode again, if it was setup that way before shipping

I didn't touch the FOB batteries. Never used the security system

I don't believe I put it into transport mode. I just turned the security on and "maybe" didn't turn it off and thinking on the trip down from Colorado it was going off the whole time and drained the battery.

Does the 3 secs on sound like the alarm is activated?

What happened to the owners manual?! You need someone who has one to advise, or contact a local dealer. You may be able to access one on the H-D website, via the 'Owners' tab.

I'd be willing to bet you killed the bike's battery. Take a volt reading AFTER you charge the battery AND HAVE TRIED STARTING IT! Just charging and testing it might just show a surface charge. Pushing the starter button would remove any surface charge leaving you with a true volt reading.

If I killed the battery then I should be able to jump the battery as a test. no?

You have the button type fob. Does it respond to button pushes?

I am not aware of any transport mode with a 2002 model. The security system is not activated unless you activate it by pushing the button the fob and holding until the security system activates. You deactivate the security system by pushing the button two times.

Transport mode only applies to the later models, not sure what year it started, but my 08 has the new system that automatically activates and deactivates when the fob is moved away or back to the bike.

I would suggest you put a new battery in the fob, they are a buck or two at Wal-Mart. When you are near the bike, push the button twice. That should solve the problem if it is a security issue.

Yes, but I would not jump start it from a running car. I would hook the cables to a charged battery or a car that was not running.
