If you can comfortably scoot forward on your current seat, then a simple rolled towel or piece of foam behind your butt will help keep you scooted forward.

You could get fancy with that and wrap it in vinyl with a tab that sets down in the backrest hole.

You may find a seat or handlebar combination that helps but it really sounds like you have something else going on. Depending on the type of pain (you said your right arm throbs), the fact that it is one arm, and that it starts so quickly (15 minutes) reminds me of a cervical problem. It could be that you have a nerve being impinged in your cervical spine and if so, depending on the cause your PT may help. I would experiment to see if it was the position of my back (particularly upper back) being curled forward, or the position of my arm (hold your arm out in a riding position for a while and see if the pain or throbbing occurs). That's just my 2 cents for whatever it is worth. Good luck.

I'll second the backrest suggestion. I had similar issues to the OP until I got one to go with my stock seat. Since then I've gone with a Mustang Wide Tripper Solo with backrest, which has improved things further. It's narrower, which gives more range of movement, and reduces pressure on the inside of my thighs - which used to cause fierce cramping.

My experience has been handlebars first, got a reduced seat and finally an adjustable rider's backrest. Lot of money to get comfortable but was well worth the investment.

Taller bars not cheap but if you can't ride then very few cheap options or sell bike.

My suggestion is Mean City Cycles. Send your seat in and they will make it FIT YOU!!!

Also as everyone has mentioned bars. There are a lot of threads about your very issue and new bars are the key. I too had and have back issues, I couldn't ride more than 20 miles when my neck and shoulders and right arm wrist would be hurting. I added 13" Prime Ape bagger bars and cruise control! $1700 later and I LOVE RIDING!!!!!

Look into the Helibar handlebars. They are multi adjustable bars. With these you can find that sweet spot that works for you.

Brewmaster,

Sent you a PM about the seat. Also, on my 06 Road Glide, I put the Khrome Werks 2+2 bars on and that helped a lot also.

It is part of a larger problem I have with bad posture in general. I have noticed an improvement overall through the PT but have been avoiding riding to make sure it heals properly.

I will probably look into the many different suggestions offered. I had been thinking about getting some new bars anyways so this may be the time to do it.

I used to have pain between my shoulder blades on long rides. I was going to put taller bars on the bike like most people suggested, but it was much cheaper and easier just to try a backrest. The backrest has done the trick for me and I haven't even thought about changing bars since.
