Default Touring Seat Recommendation

I've been having some issues lately with pain in my neck and shoulders. I've been going to physical therapy to realign my spine a bit and strengthen my shoulders. Unfortunately it is the most painful when I ride, my whole right arm throbs after about 15 mins.

I'm looking for a new seat to slide me a little closer the handle bars for better posture. Someone recommended the HD Reduced Reach Seat but it is expensive (big surprise) and was curious what other options are out there. Thanks in advance.

you could send your seat to Mean City Cycles ( I think that's the name ) they can mod it to your needs.

Might even find a local upholstery shop to do it, But I'd be more comfortable with someone who has a lot of motorcycle experience.

Handle bars had the same problems myself I put 14 inch apes and it helped a lot
I would go sit of a few other bikes with apes and see what size and name brand feel the best

These are not inexpensive, but they're flexible and much less than a good seat. You can use them as risers or to move the bars closer to your body.

If it's mainly your right arm giving you fits, check out throttle friction locks, wrist rests, and cruise control. They make a huge difference.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a throttle lock and wrist rest but my arm kills me even on my commute where those aren't really an option.

My throttle lock is always griped down to the point the owner's manual warns me I'm going to die. For a reason.

Good luck. I don't think your seat is your problem. But, I'll ask if you've tried a kidney belt or other lower-back support. I won't ride over 12 miles without one, Harley or Triumph.

Before you spend the money for a new seat, can your Handlebars be rotated rearwards towards you any?

I used to have this problem, taller bars and rotating them back has fixed the pain issue. You don't want to be reaching downward for the bars.

Also consider a Riders Backrest.

Will second Talldog's suggestion above about a backrest.

Particularly if it's your -shoulders- bothering you, and less so your rear end.

The backrest will [gently] keep you upright, so you're not using your arms to "pull towards" the bars.

Very popular option is the Sundowner seat. Many HD stores have them available for demo.

Have you tried changing your sitting position ?
Stretch your shoulders to the back and belly forward before the pain starts.
