We tent camped at Rider's Rest last year. Plenty of room, no reservations needed, pretty quite at night, clean showers and a snack bar with breakfast, burgers, etc. People there are very nice and helpful with anything you need. If you have a toy hauler it should fit your needs nicely.
This camp ground is about 7 miles from downtown Sturgis, and 2 miles from Buffalo Chip. In fact you can hear the Chip concerts from the campground. Two miles from Full Throttle and Beaver Bar.
Did Hog Heaven last time, great place to camp. We would get into town early for Breakfast at Jacks, have our pick of where to park. Hang out,do the Vendors and Then Hit the roads. For the 75th were doing the motel thing in Hill City.
Did I read that you have a toy hauler? Try the state parks down my Hill City. Pactolla Resevoir is really nice. I've camped there many times. State parks don't take reservations until January so you can still get in there.
I'm kind of interested in going since it's the 75th, but the thought of putting up with all the bs isn't very appealing... I might try the week before. Best of both.
It's going to be very busy. I enjoy going a week or two before and the prices are half and more fun for me just stop in going further west. It's a money thing anymore and not near as much fun. It's actually getting to be more of a family event and to commercialized.
"increased crowds and costs" that's a significant difference. I'm just saying don't roll into town the day the rally starts and expect to fine a room, a place to camp or even a place to park.
Numbers have been about average last couple years and to get to the stuff you want to get to has not been bad. The 75th will be different.
I always thought they rally was longer than one week. 2015 is Aug 3-9 what are the best dates to be at the rally? I thought the rally was a 2 week rally but maybe i was wrong.
