Hey, Mr HOG - I was wondering what do you think of the RB 2-1 exhaust? I heard some good things about them? Is it deep and loud? Nice rumble, or obnoxious loud?

the price difference between 95 and 98 is piston
u can find 95 se flat top piston on ebay for maybe 100. $
the 98 piston are around 275. 300.

u can put the 200 difference on head cc the head shave it to adjust compression

bump it up...106 or 107. But you won't get to my numbers for $600.

Correct if it was a 96" or 103".
He has a 88". He would have to split the cases, so why stop there?!

There is $134 difference in the piston cost and you won't notice a power difference. I'm researching the same thing. I can get the jugs bored for $160 at the local HD, get the SE cast ft pistons for $166. I found some '07 heads, did a Serdi radius job, blended and milled .030", 80cc. They give you more cam options or just street port your heads. But as you can see just going to a 95" is $326 plus the gaskets.

For $600 I can get the cylinders cleaned up and bored with pistons and rings installed, ready to go. Seems like a good deal, especially if you don't want to hassle with finding a shop to do the machine work.

Xjs... What is that stuff you mentioned, Serdi? 07 heads? Can you provide more details?

I have the RB 2-1 on my softail. Nice mellow rumble when at idle and plenty loud when you get on it. Not obnoxious loud at all. Quite similar to a Thunderheader [if you've heard those] but a little louder when you open the throttle.

I want to get a deeper, lower tone out of my exhaust - hoping the 98" bore kit will help. Seems like dauls are the best way to get that deep mellow sound, 2:1 systems don't always give you that. At least, that's what I have read.

Wow! Can't believe anyone doesn't think Thunderheader isn't at least loud??? Most would say obnoxious... RB makes nice pipes but they are for sure obnoxiously loud. Yeah I may be old but I'm also deaf.

I called all the machine shops around me, found a few to do it. To my surprise I called both local Harley shops and either of those can do it. One only wants $160 for both.
You say $600 installed, that's a decent price I suppose. However, if it's just installing the rings on the pistons, I like my $326 vs your $600.
The 2006 up heads flow about 10% better, have lighter valves, beehive springs which can accommodate higher lifts. Have a performance valve job done and mill for compression and you have a head that will easily out perform the 2001 head.
