it really does not require much attention but I don't beat on my bike
65k and I have adjusted mine maybe 3-4 times biggest thing is not to over tighten it
The stock "auto-tensioners" have been alleged to over-tighten the chain. They operate by simply tightening when they detect slack. They are a spring loaded multi-tooth tightener. They tighten but do not loosen. The hayden is aftermarket and is a sprung nylon tensioner shoe. This tensioner really made a difference in driveabillity on my bike, not as bad 1st gear clunk, smoother shifts, no chirps if roll off the throttle a bit too hard, just a better ride all around. It has to be easier on my compensator as well. You have the manual tensioner which is the same basic design the new SR tensioner has... I would keep the stock one and adjust occasionally, or go for the Hayden... Do not get talked into the Screaming Eagle tensioner, the noise it makes is truly unbearable.. The new stock auto-tensioner would be my last choice...

I'll definitely be looking into the Hayden tensioner. It's an auto adjusting one right?
Also, if the 07 and newer bikes already have that HD auto tensioner, why don't they have the unbearable noise you experienced?
