It's a honeycomb matrix, so it doesn't create much restriction to begin with. The restrictive cat was the old GM pellet type. Those were highly restrictive. Your bike doesn't come with that type, nor does anything else these days.

I'm assuming a stage 1 remap (the bike is new to me)
I'm wanting to remove the puddy cat, will the increase in flow and decrease in back pressure mess with the way it runs? or should I get a tuner before I do this to compensate for the difference. Plan on getting a tuner and header pipes, just having to upgrade as funds are available. It runs real good now, well compared to my 20 year old GL1500 Goldwing.
Thanks in advance, and y'all have a ton of tech brain power on this site from what I can tell from reading what y'all post. I plan on learning as much as I can.
I'm no smarter than you, or anybody for that matter....
I agree with others in getting a flash tuner.
Where in Texas are you? I'm around San Antonio, and happy to help any way I can.
Before I purchased a PCV I would look awfully hard at a Power Vision. It has more capability than a PCV for not that much more $$$. Call Jamie at Fuel Moto and see what he has to say.
Id suggest a TTS Mastertune instead of any PCv or powervision. Ive had highly respected tuners tell me a TTS can tune better and more precise thn a power commander. IE PC that I have seen bypasses the 02 sensors and tricks the ecm into doig things where the TTS will actually use the 02 readings to make proper adjustments. I dont know a lot about the nuances of tuning, but after being hosed by a couple shops pushing a fits all product, I will have to believe in a good tuner advice. Another thing to consider is if you have any kind of warranty, you more than likely could get rejected with a Power Commander. Just my $.02
agree pv is a great tuner, not sure what mods you got planned further down the road but right now pipes a/c change in my opinion you world be happy with the basic auto tune that doesnt need the 02 sensor upgrade, always can be added later if you get into more extensive engine mods. Fuel moto offers great support and guidance if you talk to them .

The Power Vision does not bypass the O2 sensors. The PV is every bit as good as the TTS. Either of these would be far and above better than any piggyback tuner.
Y'all got it going on, I'm ordering a PCV with auto tune....for me and right now what I will do with the bike for the next year or two it seems like the thing to get. Plus the amount of feed back I have received from them and the fact that they didn't try to shove the PV down my throat was a big plus. They even said I would probably have the unit by the end of the week.
Safetyman, I'm in Liberty Hill about 30 miles north of Austin....perfect riding area the gateway to the Hill country.
Thanks again for all your feed back, whether I agreed with it or not it was all taken to heart and listened to.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price difference for the PCV w/auto tune versus the PV? You do know the PV has its own AutoTune feature dontcha?
