Thanks everybody, when I did cams in my evo I used oil and it has 30,000 miles on it and no problems. Got my lifters soaking, heat on in my shop and as soon as it warms up I will be putting it back together. SBates08, I am located about twenty miles north of Tupelo, place called Baldwyn.
Aight good to know. Doing what Stiggy said is the easiest way to pump up the lifters. Soaking them is a futile effort and doesn't work. Hope it all goes well.
Personally I've seen too bad low mile cams to not use pre-lube. Soaking is fine but pumping them up is not necessary and no longer recommended by cam manufacturers.
Here's what Comp Cams says about pre-pumping.
"It is not necessary to “pre-pump” hydraulic lifters full of engine oil prior to installation and valve
adjustment. It is actually undesirable to do so as the “pumped up” lifters will cause the valves
to open during the adjustment process, rather than positioning the lifter plunger in its operating
position as it is supposed to do."
