I did this mod to my RK about 6 months ago but I didn't think to use the top 4 bolts of the fairing, I just cut around the headlight. You can see in the photo the gap I have and I get a nice howl from the wind above 60 mph. I like your way better, time to look for another fairing!!!!
I did the same as Hammerhead Pat, but also added the inner with an amp and speakers for the iPod. It is completely removable since it is mounted directly to the original RK windshield. I've had mine for about 5 years and it is holding up great.

Thanks!!
I did this once before on 07 RK exactly like you did with an 95 Electric fairing and had same problem... I am not sure when changes were made by HD but you'll want to make sure your outer fairing is (I believe)
same year give or take.. I don't think an 07 SG fairing would have worked this way on my 2012

Thanks, just takes a bit of cutting and fitting the inner to get around nachele. And you know how to do that.
Also, you need to flaten out the RK windsheild framework just a bit to get inner "curve" to line up. I didn't want gauges so I bought the factor plugs for the small holes. And made the covers for the center big holes.
Turns out I'm a rare breed and still prefer the windshield to the fairing. But it does come in handy for our cold Minnesota springs and falls.
Got it, would the whole flange have worked if you left the flat on the bottom
It may have worked out that way but I had already committed myself to this way before I knew it would fit my nacelle, seemed there was fit problem cutting off cleanly..
Something to keep an eye on for anyone who wants to give this a try..
Guy's are posting solid info on this thread!
Thx Everyone!! Too bad this thread wasn't here before I started project....LOL!
