Member since 1993; both my wife and I have been life members since ~1995. I met a number of great people in HOG (some real bozos as well), and have enjoyed discounts on occasion. I don't believe I'd join for the discounts alone.
I have had my 07 RK for a couple yrs, and looking to trade for a 15 SGS. I have been pricing insurance and Harley insurance seems to be good. If you are a HOG member they also give a discount.
My questions is: How many are HOG members? Is it worth the $45 a year? what are some other benefits? Would you and have you renewed yearly?
My boss has his and said 1 tow several year ago was worth it and covered years of dues!!! Also while in Fayetteville this year at Bikes Blues and BBQ I noticed one section for HOG members with free food and drinks? That alone I feel would have covered my dues with me and GF eating and drinking a couple.

Yes I kinda searched forums and didn't really see anything on HOG members or memberships
Shane,
Typically when you purchase a bike from a dealer you will receive a free H.O.G. membership for one year.
To take a look at the benefits offered through H.O.G. you can go here to take a look.
Funny you should mention his as I just received my 2015 HOG Membership envelope with my "25 year" patch!
I'm a Life Member as is my wife but neither of us have ever been to a HOG event, but there may be a time when we will and I support the group just in case.
If you can use the various discounts to justify the membership fee(s) then that works out even better.
As for the road service, we have AAA RV-Plus, as well as towing on our bike insurance policies, but just a contact number could be useful in some cases.
Being a member of any organization has some benefits and it's just a matter of if they are benefits that you need and can use.
Save over $35 a month on my AT&T bill, and have the Road America upgrade for like $20 a year. No brainer. I actually really enjoy the stories (between the ads) in the magazine, especially in the winter months when I can only dream about riding. The new road atlas is nice every year too.
I've never attended a rally or run either. But I like the atlas, patch and pin. I finally used the towing this past year. I've purchased 3 bikes this year, so my membership is good for awhile...
HOG ain't worth a plug nickle. You'll get a better discount through AAA or AARP. And not all dealers offer discounts to HOG members - in fact very few actually do.
Ya, you get a magazine and road atlas with patches and pins but you can buy a far better road atlas at any book store.
Take the first year for free, then say adios to HOG.
if all ya want it for is the towing dont do it,hog goes through road america they suck. tried it twice and wound up using a different tow,get AAA if ya want towing. however during the free year check out the local chapter some suck some are really good.

Just to make sure you realize, Harley ins. doesn't have a replacement plan, I insure my bike with a replacement policy, where i'll get replacement for a new bike, think i listed it at 28,800, , if it were ever stolen, or totaled
My work pays for my cell phone and my insurance has free towing. I have been a member for three years. For the first year that I have owned my last three Harleys. I take the free membership and never renew.
