Good day; Riders.
Riding down to and through Colorado this summer and will need some normal bike maintenance during the trip. I would appreciate hearing where you get your bike serviced; ( GOOD service does not necessarily mean a HD Shop), in these states: Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. I know this site does identify good and bad dealerships; however, that information is "out-of-date".
If you have the time and the interest; I would also appreciate hearing about any of your "must sees - Point Of Interests" while travelling through those states.
I enjoy canyon riding more than mountain riding. I've only been through Idaho once, but they canyon rides were nice. I a not sure you can go wrong if you are following water.
Lots of folks are likely to point you towards the million dollar highway in Colorado. It is a nice scenic road, just be prepared for a lot of traffic.
If you find yourself in eastern Utah, Hwy 128 between Moab and I-70 is a hidden gem. If you jump on the highway off of I-70 (Cisco Exit) you will question my recommendation for a while. Ride it out, you'll understand.
This video includes portions of Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho. If anything jumps out at you let me know. I'll identify the location, or it least get close ;-)
If you need service- would NOT recommend HD Gillette WY. (W of Sturgis)
I would recommend Rocky Mtn HD on the Southside of Denver.
* I sometimes see riders loosing a whole day waiting for a scheduled oil change when they are 800 miles from home.
Just change the oil before you go...adds piece of mind and gets you that day in the saddle.
Lots of us do our own changes...easy enough to do outside an autozone, then carry your oil in for recycling.
For riding, you can't go wrong- midweek is always better. Especially in the weeks before or after school vacations...once school is out, all the Griswolds are out there

If you need a service/oil change while you're in Colorado, I've used Durango HD (oil change) and Pike's Peak HD in Colorado Springs during previous trips. Used them both during a 6500 mile solo trip out there from Michigan back in Sep. I wanted an oil change at 4K before riding back home, so I called Durango HD and gave them a 2 day heads up with no problem. A few days later Pike's Peak got me in the next morning for trouble code issue which was resolved. Excellent customer service on the road. If it's anything routine like an oil change, I'd at least give them the courtesy of a heads up though, if you can predict where you'll be on your route.
Ridden in Colorado many times including Million Dollar Hwy (550), but my absolute favorite everytime is Hwy 160 (east) out of Durango through Pagosa Springs up through Wolf Creek Pass to South Fork. In South Fork take Hwy 149 (north) through Creed and Lake City to Hwy 50, then right on Hwy 50 (east) up through Monarch Pass to Salida. Taking your time with food/gas/scenic overview stops, it can be about 6 hours from Durgano to Salida on that route, just to give you a planning idea.
If going through Oklahoma City and needing service, I would recommend the indy shop, Freedom Motorcycles at the 3100 block of S. Robinson Ave. They do good work and are honest and reasonable.
I'm with Mike - if you are setting off on a long trip get your bike serviced first and fit new tyres, unless there is PLENTY of tread on your current ones. You can refit partly worn tyres later. You can also travel a darned sight further than the normal oil change interval without problems, especially if you are doing mostly long days in the saddle. Don't waste time when time is precious FFS!
Unless you're doing a 10.000 mile trip, and if you are, color me green, get your service before you leave. Vacation time is too precious to waste waiting on service.
In the Midwest, I've had good luck with Zip's 45th Parallel HD in *******, MI, Hawkeye HD in Coralville, IA and Signature HD in Perrysburg, OH...
I kind of assumed the OP would service his bike before he left, he just wanted to know a head of time where to find good service incase he needed it. Some folks cover a lot of miles on road trips.
You're right. By the time my journey is finished I'll have rode about 6500 miles. I like to have regular service around 4-5K but there usually is a need to have a code checked or some other issue with the bike resolved. I prefer knowing in advance what my better choices are.
Mid West is passed the first 2 vertical rows of western states from the west coast....just my opinion....
