Default Ultra Classic Wheel alignment

I have an '07 Ultra classic and am wondering if after a rear tire replacement if there is any chance an alignment may be needed. I am aware that cold roads+ cold tires + release agent can be an issue. But I seem to have no problem with Left hand turns but Right turns sometimes feel like the machine wants to fall over. This is most pronounced at "low" speeds, but occurs at "normal" speeds also. Any Ideas anybody?

Check the drive belt. See if it's to far to one side of the pully. Check to see if there is any fraying on either side of the belt.

Cyclgoat,
Thanks for the reply, belt looks fine, no frayed edges and it looks to be centered.

Are both the axle cams touching the stops? AFAIK, and that's not a lot, this is how the alignment of the rear wheel is set.

I had some trouble with my heritage after a rear tire replacement where the bike would pull hard to one side. I couldn't pull my hands off bars w/o bike veering off.

After re-adjusting belt and the axle alignment with a tape measure to swing arm bolt I could change gloves etc riding with no hands.

So my answer is yes rear axle can be off a little and make the bike handle wrong too much weight in one bag will throw you off a lot more than you think too. hth

Yes the cams get you real close if everything else is perfect ... On an 07 both the front and rear tires are the same size so if you can get it to stand upright you can run a string along the the outside of the rear tire up to the front and check to see if it "strikes the front tire square as it touches the front tire ... There is also a Gauge ( check the service Manual that you can make for aligning the rear .... BUT the belt running true in the rear pulley is THE BEST WAY TO DO IT :>)

Thank You all! I will be looking closely at axle spacing and look at belt tightness.

This is something I have been wondering about for a while now. "If" the belt is running on the inside of the rear pulley and the outside of the front pulley & both axle cams are against the stops. What is the fix? Does this happen?

The alignment is adjusted by removing or loosening the front motor mount bolt and adjusting the engine stabilizer(s) to properly orient the drive train in the frame. This can be done with a long straight edge, some have used long flouresant light tubes, there is a tool that makes it very easy but it cost +/- 400.00. Best to check swing arm bushings, wheel bearings, front engine mount (donut). these often get soft as a result of oil spills from changing filter.I wanted to add that the cams on the axle turn together and are only used for adjusting the belt tightness
