You may wantvtoconsider contacting Ironcross radio. They specialize in repairing the HZ radio. Good quality, good turnaround, reasonable price.

I've had issues with Biketronics Bluetooth which I just upgraded to. Doesn't play well with iPhone 6 wish I never replaced my older version. Also had issues with handlebar controls and modules. I'd try the Jenson.

2005 (and your buddy's 2002) have the RadioSound head unit. They will fix their radios http://www.radiosound.com/customer_service.php
The Jensen heavy duty plug-n-play for Harley's won't work ... They are direct replacement for the HK unit (2006 later).
You can go with a good Sony and maintain your hand controls (any car radio with steering wheel inputs can be adapted) you will lose your CB and intercom modules tho.
Go to the audio section and you can get more info from experienced folks
