Around here, the Walmart "Battery Rule" is if you have no receipt to show the date of purchase, they go by the month/year date of manufacture stuck on the battery.
When I buy Walmart batteries, I check the round colored date stickers to get the freshest battery on the shelf (Usually toward the back of the shelf). Besides just the warranty, I don't want to buy an old battery!
Never bought a motorcycle battery from Walmart, only autos and mowers. If one conks out on a trip, Walmarts are everywhere - like when I had one die 800 miles from home - no hassle.
When I replace my 'King battery, I will probably go with a Big Crank if I can find one kinda local in case of warranty replacement. Two year local replacement is what I will be looking for. My battery is 4 years old, BTW.
Something to consider - If you mail order one with no local warranty around, your bike may be down for a while, maybe a shipping hassle, heck you might even have to fork out for another battery as you may not be in a position to deal with the issue then if it craps out.
Just something to think about...

Even if you buy one every two years and replace it even if you don't need to, it is still cheaper than being stalled out in middle of B/F waiting for a tow truck.
It's called cheap insurance. I'm approaching 3 years and thinking about getting a new one just for that reason.
Hell, you're riding a $20K+ motorcycle?
Don't sweat it, get it?

Best Battery I have been able to find is the Extreme from Batteries Plus.
And take a core battery to trade in.

They have several different batteries too. Your choice on what you want to pay.

I am currently on my second Extreme from Bats Plus. This bat is designed for the Touring bikes which have more demands put on them than some of the other Harley bikes. My first Bat Plus lasted 23 months or about the same as the OEM battery from Harley. I took the failing battery back to the store and since it was purchased within 24 months they tested it and said "Hang On, I am going to get you a new battery". I was happy as a dead pig in the sunshine. Try to get your local Harley store to replace a weak battery at any time, much less 23 months down the road. If you did they would just point at you and laugh.

Thanks for the Reply !

Got 2 neighbors that I sent there 3 yrs ago and they got the extreme battery for their Harley. Still going strong.
We have battery tenders on them. You want to make sure your battery charger don't go over like 14.5 volts.

If you want to spend a little more money for a little battery here one is. Its a Duracell.

Here is the battery tender I got. Know its expensive. But I do not have to worry about getting it wet.

http://www.batterytender.com/Charger...us-12V-5A.html

The reason I got the 5 amp battery charger is cause it does more than maintain.
And I got a Odyssey battery. Had to put it in sideways.
And bend the terminals. Its been in 4 yrs.
Its suppose to be a really good battery.

I'm currently using this battery that I put in this time last year. Seems to be a good one so far.

Default 2-3 years??

I've read so many threads about batteries. Seams like most say they are getting 2-3 years on their battery. What's strange to me is I've had one type or another touring bikes with do dads on them, for over 30 years and my batteries last around 5-6 years. The one on my 09 Ultra I just changed the battery and it was the original one. That's about average on all the bikes I've owned, about 6 years. I've use a BikeMaster tender on every bike I've owned so I must be doing something right. Once my volts drop below 10 on start up, I change the battery.

Problem is with the EPA a lot of battery companies has moved their operations to Mexico and they have downgraded their standards to how they build their batteries.
Look at the automotive parts. They come in from all over the world.
Now some repair shops want parts from Mexico over parts from China.
But the parts from Canada are the best.

Walmart used to make good batteries and give a good warranty. But that all changed a few years ago.
Interstate used to make a good battery. But they moved their operations of making batteries to Mexico.
And they don't hold up like they used to.
And how long has the batteries been sittin on the shelf.
When HD has a battery sale. They are selling batteries that has been on the shelf.

And I haven't been seeing HD batteries lasting like they used to.

And there are so many people making batteries today.
That is why people are referring certain places . and the places they are refering will stand behind their batteries.

For some people everything is about the cost of the product.
But nobody is going to give you something and not charge for it.

Not wanting to make the battery an Oil thread.
Think some of us are trying to help and offer some suggestions from experience of where batteries were bought and the service we got out of them.

But when you get somewhere and your bike won't crank because of a dead battery.
What then.
Bottom end !
Its your choice.
But what if you could of bought a bettery battery and the folks would stand behing it.. HD has never stood behind a battery that I've owned.
