We are moving to the Phoenix area. I am riding from Kansas City to Phoenix tomorrow and wonder what route to take. I hope to get it done in 2 or 3 days.
Because it's still cold here I hope to get to warmer weather ASAP by taking a southern route like US 35 to US 10. Any suggestions?
**** someone off ?? Suppose to be 70 here tomorrow. The start of the ride should be nice. We did KC to Vegas one year, did it in 2 days. Took the I 70 route. Have fun and be safe. You are looking at 20 hours if you take the southern route, probably the best route. Mapquest it and check the weather along the route.
Probably best to go down to the I-10. Still pretty cold in northern Arizona and across New Mexico. And always a possibility of snow and ice in the higher elevations. (That means mountains to the people that live in the plains states... LOL) But on the bright side, they are predicting low 80's here in Phoenix all next week.
Your gonna love the riding here in Arizona. Lots of beautiful scenery to see!
The I-10 route might be the better choice. Depends on when you start your ride in the mornings, as the low temps might be the difference between taking I-40 and I-10.
I-10 is too far South...it comes to Phx from El Paso.
OP as above. Northern AZ is at elevation so cooler still around freezing overnights- same with your route through NM.
54 thru wichita to Tucumcari NM- there you pick up I40 West
( or if you want all interstates, I35 to OK City and pick up I40 West- this adds a hundred miles)
to Holbrook AZ, South on 377...west on 260, South on 87 takes you into Scottsdale/ Fountain Hills, or the East Valley...mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction
