I live in northern Michigan= not a lot of people. The winters are long here. I've been out of the sport for a good number of years but I'm back in now, with my first Harley, I might add. The HOG group I joined is headquartered 75 miles from my home. We just had a meet & greet where thirty people showed up. The average age of the group is 50+, I'm 57. Last year my wife and I went on three group rides. This year we hope to double that if possible. I don't know if that gives you any insight as to wether the #s are rising or falling, just my 2 cents. I'm ready for spring !!!

I read this whole thread and a lot of good points were made. As far as less riders here in the western part of CT , I would say yes. But I do think its the economy. Not that a lot of people gave up their bikes {some did} but a lot of people are working on the weekend to make ends meet! I know a lot of people that are contractors and things are slow so to work a sat or sun with a friend to make that few extra bucks does help!!! I also know one person whose job is so busy they did not even get their bike out all season.

No drop off here in S. Ca. In fact I'm also noticing a lot of active duty military clubs. Esp. Marines and Army.

I think there are more casual riders but less serious riders. But road traffic seems to be the same to me.

Being in florida we still see good numbers riding....for me I got out of the group riding for the normal reasons...pita. It was enjoyable for a time, but honestly I have always enjoyed the solo role, not having to wait on others and not having to explain to guys riding in a group isnt the same as riding solo...you need to be all on the same page..ie where are we going and are we in a hurry? I finally had enough one night, half the group decided it was good fun to blast down the highway at 100 and someone who was trying to keep up lost it. I will continue to ride my ride my way and on my time schedule.
