Hi I am confused now when you say skid lid is that the actual brand or our you talking novelty helmet? I have a skid lid and it is dot approved the decal is under the clear coat of the helmet. Are you saying these are not dot approved. The reason I'm asking is I thought I had a dot approved helmet.
Thanks in advance

Skid Lid claims to make the lightest DOT Helmet, I'm sure you have a DOT Helmet.

And I don't need a helmet lecture from anyone, I understand those risks.
Since it falls under the category of an "equipment violation" (not a serious traffic violation) you may get away with just a ticket and told to get a DOT helmet asap. Fines can be steep though depending on the state. But there is a % of LEO"s that could make you park the bike & get a DOT helmet before leaving just to be a butthole....

In Mobile, Alabama it's a 90 fine and impounded bike for non dot ,especially if a trooper pulls you over.

Also Check out HCI helmets they are small dot

Depends on the trooper, but they do not need to let you go until you can legally drive, that means wearing a legal helmet.

It was a few years back and I cant remember exact details but some North Carolina areas were very picky about DOT stickers. After the ticket You were pretty much told not to get your *** back on that motorsickle while they pulled down the road a few traffic lights and watched.
Myrtle Beach went through the trial period of impounding your motorcycles till it got quickly straightened out about superseding State Laws and State supreme court rulings.

Been wearing a novelty lid for years and been all over the country and never been stopped or hassled. But then I don't have loud pipes or ride like an idiot either.

I wear a Daytona helmet, which is pretty damn light and thin. It's DOT approved and I don't look like Marvin the Martian while wearing it...yea for me!!!!

before Michigan went to a no helmet law, 3 of us got pulled over.. 125 a ticket and the other 2 had dot stickers (novelty lids), all the officer did was look in the liner for tags and of course, it says for novelty use only... oops.
