El Cheapo Kit
May be a silly question...there is a guy on ebay selling a low cost kit that will convert your stock crossovers into a true dual system by plugging the crossover (I'm assuming at both ends, but am not sure). He has all positive feedback, but I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this? Thanks.
I am assuming that you are talking about the ones with hose clamps and metal plugs that are shoved in after you cut the exhaust pipe. If you are think about it and look at other true dual set ups the rear pipe will be shorter than the front. I can't see that doing more good than it will harm. But I work in Air Conditioning so take it or leave it.
It is not the Fullsac kit...I am looking at that too. This is a kit that keeps all of the stock hardware in place, but somehow plugs the crossover, turning it intoa true dual set-up.
I have seen this also on ebay. Yes you will have to cut the rear crossover pipe that runs to the front exhaust. Install the 'plug'. clamp it off, and reinstall the heat shields. It will still look stock. There are people here that have done it with engine freeze plugs, and such. I am sure that it will work. but I would be worried about an exhaust leak. If you want the stock look, it couldn't hurt to try it. If it fails to be what you wanted, you could always pick up a second y header and reinstall it back to stock. For my money, I say go with the full sac. I would like to get rid of the y crossover for cosmetic reasons, but most say that will cause a loss of power.
Also keep in mind that many here have had issues with the stock crossover breaking at the y connection from vibration and such. Another good reason, IMHO, to go with a true dual set up. Although, I may have to wait (money) for that crossover to break before I have to spend the money. Just spent $800 this week on new bars for my bike, and am going to visit Mickey and Minnie with the kiddos this June, so money is tight. I am just glad I had the bike at the shop when my wife decided we were going. Otherwise, I may have had to wait on the bars.
Picking up my bike tomorrow, and I can't sleep. I am like a kid at Christmas right now. SOOO excited!
