My brother and I are going to the Keys for Memorial Day week. We want to trailer my Road King and his Street Glide. Any thoughts on renting or purchasinga trailer. I want to transport them properly.
Yes I agree. I have put 8000 miles on my bike since Christmas. I just can't pack a weeks worth of 4 peoples stuff and deep sea fishing gear, dive gear, groceries and "refreshments"into the saddle bags. I will however put several hundred miles on it while in the Keys. Stop by if your in the neiborhood.
U-Haul has some very low to the ground trailers that would work. remove your windshields if you can for less wind resistance and less cleaning when you arrive. you can buy a 5x10 trailer with load ramp for about $600 nearly anywhere though.
5x10 won't even be close unless its open. You'll need at least a 7' wide for those scoots if enclosed. I've tried it. A 7x14 is best, 7x12might do, you may have to stagger them due to the width. DOUBLE STRAP EVERYTHING and use quality ratcheted ones, not those cam-buckles. They let loose easily and may cause a suprise when you open the door in the Keys.
IMHO...trailer them...I would suggest a covered trailor in case of weather...On the other hand...if you got the time...drive um like they were meant to be. Rent the trailer if you don't plan on doing this all the time or if you plan on doing it again then buy one. I just did...Jayco Travel Trailor 29 ft Octane ZX model. The best of both worlds..hotel and a trailer.
Two bikes...two brothers... four people... sounds like a perfect trip to ride with your brother, and have the "chase car" with the girls and all the gear.
