Pulling a trailer with a RKCustom...
After seeing nightglide's pics in the thread "Hard Bags on a Road King Custom??", I noticed he has a trailer hitch on his ride..
I'm looking for some info on pulling a small trailer behind an 05 RKCustom.. I'm going to be riding to Sturgis this year, and been having problems figuring out how I am going to carry enough gear.. Pulling a small trailer behind the bike would certainly resolve that issue. Overall I'll be going probably 7500 miles..
How well do they handle pulling a small trailer? Too much strain on the bike? What about climbing steep grades? Or going down them?

I have pulled a trailer for years. Have gone coast to coast. Last year I traveled from SC to CO and rode the Rockies for a couple of days. No issues at all.

My Uncle has actually pulled a custom built (by him) two man boat behind his '84 FXSB all over the country for as long as he's owned the bike. And that's been since '84...
He's never had any issues with power, going up or down hill. No tranny problems, nothing. Of course, he's rebuilt the bike a few times, but it does have over 200,000 total miles.

I built my own trailer. It is on a harbor freight trailer kit with a Diamond plate aluminum box. I upgraded the lights to LED's because they are a lot more reliable. It pulls like it's not there. I have a modified motor so I can not say anything about that. But for long trips it is the best thing I ever did. (Well that and a cruise control.)
There are a number of sourses for hitches. I got mine from Kuryakyn. I use a hoppy power isolator also.
