It sounds like your bike needs a good going over with manual in hand to ensure that you don;t have anymore surprises.

the manual will also have torque values so that none of the bolts break

Well all the bolts were tight. It appears to be leaking from the primary cover in two places at the bottom. I guess my next step is to replace the primary cover gasket? I have one on the way so hopefully that will do the trick. I looked everywhere and could find no oil leaking anywhere else.

On my 1996 Road King I had the main transmission seal go bad, but I think you'd see more oil then that. It literally poured out when it was warm. Do not overtighten bolts in those aluminum cases! I'd much rather deal with gaskets then stripped holes!

a slight seep can be hard to find- spray on foot powder ( 99¢ store) will help find a seep, spray in on and see where it gets washed away

my experience is that primary covers don't leak very often ...sometimes but not often... I would run my hand between the inner cover and the engine on the back side of the inner cover and make sure it is not leaking there ...just a heads up...yours cover might be leaking, but I would just give it a real good look see to make sure you replace the right part...

Run your finger along the bottom of the primary cover & case, if you feel oil Bingo. If not check the bolt underneath & rubber gasket. Good Luck!

Its a 98 Road King. It has right at 61000 miles on it. No engine noise. Runs great. The leak started after sitting for about 2 weeks

After further inspection it looks like its leaking from the rear of the primary. I am taking it in to a friends shop tomorrow and have him check it out.
