Fixed an issue on a buddies 2008 street glide yesterday.
Not looking for a pat on the back, just thought if anyone else having similar symptoms, might consider these notes.
Problem:
Bike would die, or sputter at varying rpm. Needed to be shut off then turned on to restart. Intermittent sputtering and dieing got worse as 2 weeks past.
Codes:
P0113 - IAT sensor open/high
Solution: replaced bad TMAP sensor (about $92 part)
Trouble shooting: amongst other things like catching the bike-up on 30k mile service, replacing fuel filter, checking electrical connectors, etc. Removed TMAP sensor. This device measures air temp and vacuum at the throttle body. Took OHM meter to pins 1 and 2, to test continuity and how close to actual scale (found in 2008 electrical diagnostic manual). As we were testing the device, I found the resistor would open (meter reads no continuity) during test. Though the temp scale was off a bit, it was even more defining that when the resitor moved, we lost connection. that was the 'ah-ha' moment.
I think I'm going to start posting some of these head scratcher repairs, until someone tells me to stop wasting space on the WEB!
Seems to me that any information like what you just provided is NOT wasting space. I've found several bits on this forum that have been extremely helpful, as well as saving me a load of cash. So, keep'em coming, far as I'm concerned.I like learning from others' experiences.
"IF" for some reason the problem rears it's ugly head again check the fuel tank top plate assembly where the fuel filter canister mounts for roundness. I had a similar problem with random sputtering, dining or no start. The '08s had a recall or TSB about the top plate warping at the fuel filter mount.
