to go a few miles over 1000 before the 1000 mile service. i have 1100 on it now, am scheduled to have service on monday, but wanted to do a couple hundred mile ride on sunday. think it will be ok?
I went a few hundred miles over the 1000 mile service and all was fine. Service MGR didn't say a word about it. I ride pretty much 2000+ mile trips. Not always close to my area and asked how close on miles should I be when it comes to service. He told me try and keep it within 500 miles or so of the scheduled service. I do have a service plan that allows me to have it service at another dealer, but even with that it doesn't always work out where I can stop and have it done.
I had around 1150 on my RK Classic before my 1,000 miler. Got a little over 8K on it now with no problems. I went to Syn 3 so I could go longer between oil changes.
These service markers are a guideline mileage interval for Heaven's sake. What did you expect the bike to do? Quit running? Explode? Afraid your warranty would be invalid? Willie G. to show up at your doorstep and slap you in the face?
If you go more than 300 miles over the 1000 mile service mark the ECM will shut the bike down, then you will have too pull the battery and hang it upside down for 48 hours and then have it towed to the dealer for the service work and they will type in a secret code word to get the bike running again. Or just ride it and don't worry about it.[sm=icon_rofl.gif]
