Have you blown a fuse?

I know you checked the 12v power once but do you still have it?

I can't help you but I can feel your pain and frustration. I did the same thing with same results on a previous Road King. Couldn't get it to work so ended up rolling it into the dealership to fix. Don't remember what the problem was but vowed to never do that mod myself again. On my new King I let the dealer install that one thing. Hope you get it sorted!

My bike is 2014 FLHTK. The manual for 2014 indicates: "If the heating element controller, located in the left grip, detects an open or a short between the left and right grip circuit, the system is disabled".

How did you bench test he left hand grip alone? According to my manual without the right grip connected this should not have worked.

Like I said dont really know this might help - good luck
You Sir Are The Winner. I would not have even thought to check there, I thought there was only a gear in there to control the TBW.

I started to put things back, I hooked up the 12 volt 10 amp (that is important to know for future people) I connected the left and the right and fed power from where the grips get their power from the bike. The left hand heated up, but not the right hand. Urghhh.

I read the above post from Weatheredge. I would have never thought of that if he hadn't posted. I shook the right hand grip and it rattles. I thought great the gear in there for the TBW was also bad. I shined a flashlight down the tube to see what Weatheredge was talking about.

So then I took off the end cap, (simple pull out by finger nails) and straighten up the pins. Apparently when I installed the Khrome Werks 2+2 handlebars I didn't know about these pins and just shoved the grip back on.

There is a spot on the end of the TBW that these little pins insert into, then the cap goes back on.

However, I thought I had ruined that little circuit on the end. I left it dangle and and plugged it in, hooked up the TBW under the fairing, connected the interconnect heated hand grip wire (black an white) and then fed my 12 volt 10 amp power source (battery charger actually, and this is important to the end) I only got heat in the left grip again. Dang.

I thought well I will have to go to Harley to get another right hand grip because I want my heated grips.

I put it all back together, then took it out for a quick spin around the block, wall dang, not expecting it halfway around my hands were getting warm!

I would guess. That the bike has to be running and above idle to deliver enough amps to the grips to heat them, and enough power to heat the other side. The 12 volt 10 amp battery charger was not producing enough amps I would guess. I know this bike has a 50 amp charging system so that maybe why it didn't heat the other grip.

So the moral is...If you install new handle bars on your Electra Glide Touring bike make sure to take off the right hand end cap, and when reinstalling the grips to put that plug in place after the grips have been put back on so you don't bend those little pins.

Thanks to every one for your suggestions.

I took off the left grip and connected with 2 cork board pins into the where the Red and Black connect and then connected my battery charger to those leads and after about 3 minuets with it set on #6 it started to warm, but not real hot, however my batter charger goes from 13 volts to 3 1/2 volts then back up again cycling like that. Also the batter charger is 10 amps. The grips I guess need more than 10 amps to get really hot as I discovered from my previous post.

I read too that if they are disconnected they wouldn't work, but I thought I would try I had nothing to loose.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I had to give kudos to you for your post. I recently installed new bars. Everything worked afterwards, but I didn't try the heated grips because the weather was still too warm. Now, that it's gotten cooler, I tried using the heated grips. No joy. So, I did a search and came across your post. Lo and behold, the pins were bent. I straightened the pins, got them plugged in and I now have heated grips. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ditto. Seems like the most daunting mod even compared to doing engine and transmission work.
