I have heard or read somewhere that we tend to forget the bad and only remember the good. That must be what has happened to me because all of my memories about the evos, shovel, ironhead and pan are good. I really do not remember having any problems with these bikes that made me cuss them, wish that I never bought them, or that ever left me stranded. OK, I'll have to make the pan an exception. But, I bought it used in 1973 or 74 knowing it was abused and I only paid $500 for it. I had hoped to make something out of it, and I did, just never the dream chopper that I had hoped. I wish I still had all those old Harleys. They were damn good bikes at the time.

I have a question… How many of you have ridden anything (HD that is) besides a Twinkie (Twin Cam)? With all the bitchen and whining on here about new bikes and their quirks I would venture to say not many of you have been on a Pan or a Shovel or even an Evo for that matter. The fact of the matter is that I remember when you had to carry a complete tune up kit and tools and god knows what else just to go on a hundred mile trip. I don’t think that a lot of you know just how good you have it or just how far the Harley Davidson has come. No… I don’t want a bunch of hate mail, but just so you know I am old guy that has been a few Harleys (and other bikes, my latest is a 07 FLHRC) in my time and I just wanted to throw that out for discussion.
Got to agree, love the new motors, I been riding since 58 owned them all at one time or another, really liked the old Iron head sportys though, back then anyway.also worked in a bike shop so I got to work on all that old stuff, 3 brush Gen. linkert carbs, mousetrap clutch setup, oh yeah, some real nightmares, got so i didn't ride to much with a group cause every time somebody heard a noise I had to leave the bar and go look/see..good old days.[sm=icon_rofl.gif]

Right on SMT.some people just are not happy unless they are complaining. The oldest Harley I had the pleasure of riding was built in 1928 74".The new Harleys are incredible machines. It has to be what we will be riding in the heavens.I hope!!!!

SMT your exactly right I made the same comment a while back and actually quit evan looking on the forum for a waile because of all the bitching. But Iam back thanks to my dad who said "just take it with a grain of salt" most people on here have never riden anything older than a 2000. My first bike was an Iron Head in '91. tore it apart built it up and it was still an iron head, had saddle bags just for tools. bought a heritage newin '93 put 15,000 miles on it in six months, still carried tools but only a small tool roll now. bought a used '99 road king in '99 carried tool roll about 6 months. Just got an '07 SG took the tool kit that came with it out the day i brought it home. THEY just dont know how good we ALL have it now.......................................

This is my first bike ever. I have about 27,000 miles on her and she has spoiled me beyond belief. She has never let me down in 18 months. But, I also take GREAT care of her!

These modern day bikes are like owning and riding a Cadillac.

I have not owned a lot of older H-D's but I have ridden my fair share andowneda lot of other make bikes andonesfrom other countrys too.

I think these H-D bikes are just getting better and better.

I can tell you that I've had more trouble with my newlawn mower then with my RK. And the lawn mower has a honda engine on it! Figure that!

That ain't much to complain about either, I just go buy more parts and fix it too.

Ifeelbad for those that can not or don't know how to fix their stuff. I think thats what gets them complaining! They can learn if they want to.
