Default 7 speed?

Hello, new to the this forum. Figured I would try and seek some input from the many years of combined experience amoung all my fellow bikers out there. So, I have a 2007 street glide. 96ci with a 6 speed transmission (which I'm sure almost all of you knew). I am considering putting in a 7 speed transmission and a 117ci big bore kit within the next couple years. My question would be, which should I do first, and when I finally do the transmission, would I be able to do all the work without taking the motor off the frame, or can I just put the bike on a lift and do it from there? The big bore kit will be a pain in the ***, but I'm pretty sure that I can do that with the engine on the frame.

You wont be able to do that big of a bore kit in the frame. the cases will need to be bored out howevee you can so a 107 without boring the cases.

A 117" kit is a serious upgrade! I recommend you talk to one or two of the engine specialists such as Fuel Moto or Hillside Cycle, both of whom are HDF sponsors. There may be more to this than first meets the eye!

Ah, well even going from a 96 to a 107, Im still going to be able to get a considerable amount of power increase, no? And if I do decide to go to a 107 instead, so I do the bore kit before I do the transmission?

A 107 kit according to fuel motos numbers average from 115-120hp and roughly 125-130tq oN an average depending on head work and cam choice. And if it were my build id so the bore kit 1st you may just get the power you need to do a pulley swap instead of doin the 7 speed.

So I could do the bore kit, the cams and/or the heads and get possibly 120-130hp? And just curious, the Pistons in this 107 kit must be close to the size of the Pistons in the 96ci engine, I should be able to do all the work in frame, will I need to balance the Pistons or is the weight the same as stock?

You should do some diligent reading about the Fuel Moto 107 kits ... Serious dependable horsepower for a fraction of the cost of going into the lower end

A 107 wiith the right cams, head work, pistons, a good 2-1 exhaust and an expert tune would get you in the 120s, but I doubt as high as 130. Again, talk to the experts - FM, Hillside, Dragos, etc.

Personally I wouldnt spend money on a 7 speed. Its a lot of money for very little return - you wind up shifting a ton and your final gear ratio is the same as the 6 speed.

Well thank you for the input. I'm glad I brought up the new transmission. The more input I get on the subject, I see that I would be better off just doing the bore kit and not even bother with the transmission. This has been very helpful. The exhaust I have now is a dual exhaust, I forgot what the heads are, but the tips are rhinehart's. I'm considering just going with the 107" kit, now should I go with upgraded cams from Harley, or are there aftermarket cams that are better?

Nevermind, just realized that the fuel moto kit comes with cams.
