Definitely fun to watch. Does trash your driveline though. Even with a procharger it will take some clutch to get the front end up like that. Trashes the belt as well as the compensator also. You can set it down without slamming it with as much skill as those guys have so the front forks don't take as much beating as you would think. I'm sure they don't care though. Bike damage is just part of the cost of doing business for them. I can't afford to be in that business (plus, I don't have the skill so it would get real expensive on my first attempt). I do agree with others that it shouldn't be done on a public road with other vehicles around. But crap, I watched the original video and the one above. I even watched some of the other ones that came up on youtube that were fails. I JUST COULDN'T LOOK AWAY!
not my style of riding
but very impressive see a big beast like that standing up
obviously a lot of motor work
kudos if thats what you are into
pretty cool
31 years in highway patrol. Never worked a wreck on a guy doing a wheelie. Saw and even caught a few doing wheelies, but never saw one wreck doing a wheelie....on the highway. I used to could do a wheelie for as long as I wanted to on a StingRay, course I rode a unicycle too. Never tried it on a street bike......afraid I would tear something up and it would cost me money! The video was impressive!
Normally I love wheelies. I wish I could do them on my bike. But I can't get with doing them on public roads - especially when other cars are around.
Years ago, I was on the way to a stunt show on Long Island in my car. As we were waiting to pull into the venue, a guy on a sportbike comes out and starts doing a wheelie. At some point, he lost control and dumped the bike. The bike crashes and slid maybe 50 feet right into my car. The whole thing happened in slow motion. Because we were sitting traffic, I wasn't moving at the time at the time of the crash. But that also meant that I couldn't move out of the way when I saw what was happening. Luckily, the bike missed my friends who were on their bikes. It took everything in me not to beat the hell out of him.
That "Into The Unknown" video was pretty damn cool, as dangerous as it probably is to us, those guys seem to have a good grasp on thier limits. Most of it was open road with no traffic, some had a little traffic but they were in front of the traffic. I guess we all know its dangerous to others and themselves, but still cool to watch.
