They help a lot to me, I also upgraded the lamps to the 35 watt H-3 bulb and it made quite a bit of difference over the stock sealed beams, well worth it to me and so is taking the time to aim them where you want them to shine. It really fills in the sides of the road where critters lurk.
If you want to extra lighting but like me you don't want to mess with the X's single headlight look you might want to consider the engine guard fog lamps offered by H-D. Adds some lighting plus adds to your visibilityby other motorists.
Cropped pic below shows them mounted:
I had the wiring routed through the bar and up to the accessory switch on the dash.
Wouldn't leave home without them. As far as the minimal-less look of the SG, while driving at nightcan only see the light they provide not the lights themselves.
I run 'em all the time. As far as I'm concerned .... can't have 2 much light. Just another 'something' hopefully for a car to see before they cut me off
Not only do they helpat night, I swear by them during the daylight...I believe (watching others actions) that people notice the three lights when they might have missed/ignored the single headlight...wouldnt leave home without 'em
Wont ever ride without, had a fatboy without and took a rock and all of a sudden no lights, at least with passing lights you have something to get you home.
