Im 6'2 and riding a stock seat on my 2013 FLHTC. There are times when I get cramps at my hip when using the foot controls. Granted at 52 im not as flexible as I was but I think it has to do with seating location. I feel very comfortable with my riding position other than this. Do I need a seat that sets me back farther or just get more exercise?
You must constantly drink water before and during your ride.Add some Turmeric, fresh Ginger root and Horseradish( i use Gold's) to your diet. I have sciatica and try to use as many anti- inflammatories that i can,red tart cherries are my favorite, though. Feel better.
Welcome to the Sons of Arthritis, ibuprofen chapter!
Sometimes stretching helps, don't let your hamstrings get tight.
Sometimes more saddle time helps.
Multiple foot positions help, rotating your leg so your toes are out wards puts your hip joint at the least amount of stress.
Riding one up I sometimes have to almost ride side saddle to get some relief.
Sometimes nothing helps but a handful of Advil and lots of stops.
Been there, done that got the limp to go with it!
All the above, I find all the above works, limit your rides to 200 miles, then stop and take a break, walk around the bike or get something to drink. Sucks to git old.
56 here and have that happen quite a few times.........went on a long trip down south last summer(3k miles in 10 days) and decided to drink LOTS of gatorade a few days before and during the trip.............HYDRATION is the key, and lots of potassium for muscles...
Thanks for great advice! I guess I cant just throw some money at it to make it better...glad im not alone in this! I will try and hydrate better a few days before my planned longer rides
Happened to me all the time on my stock seat on my '07... switched to a leather saddlemen, it stopped. I bought my '11, same thing, swapped seats, issue gone.
Happened once on my 14... and the Corbin was already on it's way.
I guess before '07 I was young enough where I just didn't notice....
As said before I agree also I'm a bit younger but my youth days are catching up fast. They do have tall guy seats also which set you back a bit further in the riding position. Go to the dealer and demo ride one of there's and see what fits best. And advil and water again. Repeat as necessary.
a lot of guys like low seat heights, but a taller seat height might just be the ticket. try doing a test with an airhawk or beadrider. either of those raise you up for cheap.
