I didn't read that he was "riding around" at 1,800 rpms ... I read that when slowing down there was a shake between 2,100 and 1,800 rpm ... and FWIW a lot of synthetic trans fluids give off a foul smell ... the trans is vented to the atmosphere ... could be your smell ??

The shaking is pretty normal as your coming to a stop with the bike in gear and the clutch out. If you pull the clutch in at about 2k as you approach the stop or down shift into a lower gear the bike won't shake. But if your in say 2nd gear as you approach the stop sign and the rpms drop below 2k you will feel a shutter from the clutch and compensator until you pull the clutch in. Mine was worse when new but still does it some even at 8k miles. I just downshift at 2k until 2nd and then pull the clutch in and down shift to 1st but I keep the clutch in at that point until I stop.

Burned oil smell sounds like you got a leak. Go and check the ground in under your bike right now. If you see marking, you have discovered the source of your burnt oil smell.

The hippie hippie shakes sounds like the engine lugging. If that's not it, have the dealer look her over.

Check those bolts at bottom of transmission cover by exhaust bracket. They come loose and drip oil on the exhaust.

This was the source of my most recent leak. Hard to notice, too, because it often is such a slow leak that you won't notice marking on the ground when you look under the bike.

Same issue I had on my last bike, guys behind me smelling burnt oil. In my case it was the early stages of cylinder base gasket leak. About a week later you could see the seepage, that's when I figured it out. Not cheap fix either.

This is kind of hard to diagnose a brand new bike. My advice would be to "Ride more and worry less".
