I usually hear the Japanese variant owners talking about the size of the engine. They are usually a few cc's bigger than the Harley. The Jap variant owners around my area all have to state how they have a "bigger " engine to justify their purchase decision. No matter how they justify it, its not a Harley and I think they know it. Harley owners don't have to justify anything, the bike speaks for itself.
REALLY? grown men and women have to justify what they spend their money on? seriously? that's crazy no matter what you ride. We have several riders at my office building and no one ever asks anyone to justify what they have bought. Lunch time comes and usually a group or two take off riding. the only bike I am concerned about is the one I am on. good lord.
I see a lot of makes, models and riders all trying to make their rides looks and sound like a Harley. I haven't seen anyone trying to make their Harley look like anything but a Harley. At the end of the day there are two kinds of motorcycle riders;those riding a Harley and those wishing they were!

I think your comment is true, apart from the guys that owned a Harley, and didn't like the build quality, or some other aspect so bought an alternative make. Like me, but then I went and bought another Harley anyway.
I'm confused now.

Woe, did you make a wrong turn somewhere? you know this is a Harley forum don't you?

So the Harley owner thinks his bike is actually worth the price he paid - otherwise he wouldn't have bought it. So does the Ducati owner. So does the BMW owner.
And the owners of the Japanese variants, like a Yamaha Stratoliner Harley wannabe bike, will tell themselves that they got a better value....
I road tested a Victory, was a nice bike & had a lot of good options. Price was not much different than a Harley. But when I was on it, I just didn't have the same sense of pride while riding it, not that it was a bad bike. But I also rode a 2010 Limited & did not like it as well as my 99 Ultra. As for the moron asking if it was a Victory, I probably would have said no it's a Jeep. They are close to the same thing are they not
Just Empty Every Pocket. Not to mention if you drive a Bronco, Land Cruiser, Toyota, Blazer, ect ect ect, people call them Jeeps.
I am going to give everyone a list of MY favorite things about the different brands.
Victory. Ok on the touring models, the floor boards are exceptionally large. that is probably my favorite part of that bike with my super sized feet. I cannot complain about that at all. It also is very roomy. some of the styling is shall we say out there and you really have to like the styling if you go that route (which a lot of people do not).
Indian. at 6'4" tall, I am cramped on that bike. even the touring model cramps me up. I do love the STOCK exhaust on them and honestly I could live with an indian with only the stock exhaust.
Star Motorcycles (Yamaha). Love that 1900 cc air cooled engine and the 1700 cc air cooled engine. they are freaking bullet proof. the accessories are actually more expensive then Harley accessories and there are obviously not as many. You can get a ton of trouble free miles out of that engine (no cam chain tensioner issues etc etc).
Goldwing. clearly the best touring bike made period. It is so smooth however that it simply will not move you. unlike a lot of other brands, its about the destination and not the ride there. bullet proof as it gets but expensive as hell to repair.
Harley. the soul of motorcycles. coolest looking and best sounding bikes on the planet. its love or hate with them. everyone loves them on the road and everyone hates them at the shop. best dealer network in the world and probably the best marketed company of ANY company. I know this will get some darts thrown at me, but I absolutely love the sound of the old EVO motors. THAT is the Harley sound. to me honestly the new Harleys sound almost exactly like the metrics. sorry to **** some of you off, but that's what I think.
now with all that said, ride what you want and enjoy it. Finally a bashing thread with something positive in it.
[*]Goldwing. clearly the best touring bike made period.
That's awesome. Thanks for deciding for the rest of us what the "best" is. You could really save us all a lot of time and grief by telling us what is the best -
oil
tires
seat
highway
beer
etc.
