The best way to buy an ESP contract is on a used bike. I have done so on 2 bikes, and I ride a lot of miles, they payed for themselves 3 times over.
Most of an engine first time, and in tank fuel lines, radios , rear swing-arm bushings, trans rebuild , 4 stators, fairing brackets, motor mounts, wiring harness, shift shaft seals, and probably more, that I can't remember now.

I purchased my bike used from a private party. Came with esp. For what I paid for the bike, the esp was basically free. I could have cashed it in. For what?

Thankfully I haven't used it. Good till 2017

Sounds like on some of these examples, the dealer saw ESP and rang up a laundry list of stuff that might not really had been bad or marginal. You always here about the very few that win in Vegas, same with extended warranties. If the dealers were paying out more than they were bringing in, they wouldn't do it. The manufacturer always wins in the long haul.

The dealer doesn't hold the extended warranty, and Harley MOCO doesn't hold the warranty either, it is an independent company with the Harley name.
Dealers can get warranty items covered if they talk enough, and push hard enough, except for the stators, I took my bike in when things are very slow in the winter time, and they went over things with a fine tooth comb. They have to keep paperwork , and such , so it is all on the up, and up.

That's exactly what it is! When I bought my 2009 Ultra from them 3 weeks ago it was perfect according to them. When I bring it back a few days after buying it and the esp I might add, to have it tuned and new slip ons put on it now has leaks they say must be fixed. $2,000 it will cost they say but remind me not to fret because I am covered by the esp they sold me a week ago and it's only going to cost me $50. Just like going to the doctor's office. When they see the good insurance card they want to do an MRI for a headache when Tylenol is all that's needed.

This story is more of the virtues of having ESP and Road America (Ultra Plus Plan)
I just had to use ESP again yesterday. The bike went into limp mode and was throwing a bunch of 'P' Codes. Turns out the terminals that go to the TCA were fretting, and were causing issues. Though the terminals were replaced, it side lined me away from home for 33 hrs. and I had to stay another night

Towing to the dealership - FREE covered by Road America
Parts/Labor of the Repair - $50 covered by ESP
Rental Bike while mine was being worked on - FREE Covered by ESP (if more than 100 miles from home)
Hotel Night - FREE Covered by Road America (if more than 100 miles from home)

So between towing, rental, hotel, meals, it totaled up to over $660 which I was responsible for $50 of it.

.. and I took their rental bike and flogged it for 250 miles in the AM while they worked on mine. I also managed to collect 5 more points on the ABC's of Touring program.

I always hoped that I never had to use my ESP but it's been great to have it when I needed it. With all the electronics on the new bikes and the prices of parts ($1800 6.5 Boom Box) it doesn't take long to break even on the cost of the plan. Oh and I almost forgot the $50 deductible is less than I would pay for a 1/2 hour labor charge ($115 / per hour) at my local dealer.
