I never buy an extended warranty when I buy a car, appliance, etc. But when we bought our 2010 FLHTC I decided to spring for one. We bought it used in 2013. Last year the fuel gauge started acting wonky so I took it and and they replaced it. Cost me the $50 deductible.
Last week I took her in for routine maintenance plus I wanted them to check the starter since it was slipping and I am planning a major road trip at the end of the month. They come back with a grocery list of items: starter needed replacement, clutch line leaking, oil pan leak, warped rotors, and problems with the tranny that requires a complete rebuild. In all, over $3k in repairs... all covered by the ESP for $50. Glad I decided to go for one.
It can come in handy, that's for sure. I've got the tire/wheel coverage also and it saved me over $400 when a huge nail decided to take up residence in the almost new rear tire.
I look at all warranty and insurance as gambling. You are betting something bad is going to happen and they are betting it's not. I was also surprised when they said the rotors were covered. But I have had nothing but good dealings with this dealership. Gruene Harley-Davidson in New Braunfels, TX .
I took my ride in for it's 15K maintenance and of course, I hade a few issues (stator needed to be replaced), but it was covered under ESP with the exception of the $50 deductible. I actually felt like I won something...lol.
