2014 Road King Wire harness help please
The 2014 RK has a 8 pin connector for accessories. So, you need the adapter that goes to the 4 pin style. There are only 4 wires on the 8 pin. There are three wires on the 4 pin. The three wires are the battery, ground, and ignition. The missing wire is the accessory switch wire. The Harley adapter conviently has 3 wires that come off the adapter for hard wiring.
So, I bought the female pin that goes in the harness 8 pin side of the adapter. Taking it apart was not easy since I had never done it before. You need to take the two pieces of rubber off the back. Then you pop the front center forward to unlock the pins. You remove the rubber empty pin keeper thing and put in the crimped female pin. The wire is blue green. The purple one is the ignition wire.
After that, I ran the wire to a set of led lights on the frame under the gas tank. I figured that was better than the gas tank just incase I ever had to take the tank off.
The ignition wire and ground went to the stereo. The stereo is just Bluetooth speakers so they don't need a constant power source for a clock and memory.
The end result is the radio comes on with this bike. The led lights come on when I flip that accessory switch.
No wires were cut on the bike. The service techs at the dealer didn't even know how to use the switch. He thought I plugged into a harness in the headlight.
