what is the normal temp of the oil , and what is the high side of the oil temp ??
other owner install a oil temp gauge in place of the air temp , put the sender in the dreaded oil pan hole , I really never pay attention to the gauge but was just wondering ,, I have seen it hang around the 230* mark but have looked down and seen it around 245*-250*
where it is measured is key- in the tank usually under 250ş for me even on the hottest days...there are variables
the 2009 oil pan has a different channel, baffle than earlier to cause the returning oil to fall at a point farthest from the oil pick up
I also have EITMS top pump cooling air through the rear cylinder when stopped
I added oil cooler
My own measurements show oil temps in the pan 25ş cooler with fairing lowers on 105ş ambient day
oil type...synthetic will withstand high heat, conventional oil can break down into "coke"*.
The twin cam sprays oil at the underside of the pistons and the cylinder bore to cool...also circulates through teh heads and through the bearings- the oil removes heat from the hottest parts of the motor.
where I am going is fairing lowers are good, oil cooler is better and synthetic is best.
all of these together should make for a happy motor.

*one of my old 429 Caddy's had coke in the oil pan, granular crud. in addition all the metal surfaces has a hard "varnish" cooked onto it.
what a mess- a sure sign that the previous owner used cheap, wrong oil

So your oil temps are less with the fairing lowers?

That's ballpark. I tad cooler if it's cold weather. 20' less if you have an oil cooler. But those numbers are good. Where are you? What temps are the ambient air when you read those temps?

new mexico ,right now it is in the high 70's , 230* cruising, 245*-250* stop and go , but it gets to the low 100's here in the summer, not to worried about just courioius as to what the normal temps would be if there were any normal ones.
I was told by someone...years ago, do not worry about your oil temp. If you have quality oil, and it has been changed on schedule.....your oil is fine.
Your rear head temperature is OK....but it is the one that will take a beating when in a stop....more stop than go traffic. Better to have little than NO air flow over the cylinders.
But a few minutes at a stop. Carry on.
