Sooo, Hubby's birthday is coming up soon, he's been complaining about the fairing speakers in his 2004 Electraglide Classic, which are the only speakers on the bike and are original equipment, we listened to the hogtunes display speaks and not very impressed. Anyway would like some suggestions on something reasonable to replace and can be installed by a all around mechanically inclined fella!
Give Biketronics a call ( 800-735-2419 ) and ask for Bill. Their speakers are hands down the best made for bikes. They carry a lifetime warranty no questions asked. He will give you a discount for being a forum member.
If your husbands bike doesn't have an amp, Biketronics are not worth the money. Don't get me wrong, they are arguably the best bike speakers out there, but they are expensive. I'd suggest Infinity Kappa 62.11is, for about $110 or so. His bike has 8 ohm speakers and a Radio Sounds head unit, different than 06 and up bikes.

Ya really need to stick with 8 ohm speakers with the stock radio and no amp. Not really any good choices I know of?? I would look at a Rockford amp and some infinity 6.5s with adapters. The audio section is your friend.
Lots of great options out there, but I don't consider J&M one of them. Go to the audio section and get advise from the experts!
Agree +1. Don't blow your money on J&M, there;s LOTS of good options out there for any budget. How much are you looking to spend? Even on a budget you could put together an amp and speakers that would blow away what he currently has (and the hogtunes you listened to).
I went through a few sets of speakers... what I can tell you is this,
A. get an Amp!!!!
B. Polk audio (yes everyone has a fav.. Polk happens to be mine)
C. 6.5 in the fairing
D. Don't waste your time with speakers in the lowers put them in the top of the saddle bags. 6x9's
E. Get ready to dig deep into the wallet or do it yourself.
F. Jump over into the audio section of the forum.. lots & lots of advice there.
