99 RK forward control help
Hi all,
Well this is my first Road king and my second harley ( had a 94 fat boy long story.)
So here's the deal I am 6'3 382 lbs and i am currently paying up the down payment for the RK i should have it by 5/2
ok thats the Sweet
Here's the Damn
I cant seem to find any extended forward controls for under $800 that will fit, I am also looking for a larger seat and a good set of riser's that i can use that wont make me replace my cables.
I am a disabled vet and despite working full time and getting V.A benefits the most i can afford to spend is about 650 without screwing my budget up to the point i am homeless again.
The good... Did i tell you i was buying a Harley?
The Doc at the VA actually told me I should buy it, he says it will help reduce stress that is causing my issues with ptsd. Normally I argue with Dr's but i guess i can listen to this guy he seems trustworthy, I mean seriously he told me to buy a harley how can i not trust him?
However I have to ask, with all the stuff I have to do for it to fit comfortably..
Did i bite off too much?

First of all Thank YOU for your service!!!!
With the bike being that old I doubt there are many demo seat options but one thing you could do is 360 adjustable highway pegs. Converting to forward controls would be pricey as you know but at about $200 for the 360 and pegs you are offered a great deal of adjustable stretch room.
You might also consider some apes but that can get expensive as you have to replace cables and wire extension kit.
Best of luck and stay safe and ride the heck out of that bike!!!! Pure therapy.

I agree with Mike, you may not really need actual forward controls. Getting highway pegs will give you an extended place to put your feet. Another option also are extended brake pedal and extended shifter levers. These are not cheap, but you could do both for way less than $800. I am 6'6" and this is how I made my RKC and now SG fit me. Oh, that and a Tall Boy seat, but you may not even need that.
Good luck with the new ride!

I have one of those kits that move the boards out and the pans that move them forward. I also use Highway pegs on the crash bars so my heal rests on the boards and the front of my foot rests on the pegs. I too am 6'3" and it works out great. Also, if you have been riding with footboards your whole life, the last thing you would probably like is footpegs way out front and you getting pissed off that you feet won't stay on in an 80MPH wind.
I'm 6'3" also my rkc is a 04. I went with the actual heritage bars, that did the trick on the bars. don't have to change the cables or brake lines. the adjustable pegs will also get you the room on the boards. have mine set where my heels are on the edge of the boards and ball of the foot is on the pegs. bars are about 90 bucks at the dealer. check and see if they have a set of take offs. might get them cheaper. ck out this thread.

Not sure what the seat options are for a '99, but I picked-up 2 inches for my long legs with a LePera Maverick "Daddy Long Legs" seat on a 2014 Road King. This seat moved me back 2 inches and down 1" from the stock seat riding position. Also, I hear the handlebars on the 2014 RK are similar in height to Heritage bars. I'm 6'0" tall with long legs. A 2013 RK with stock bars and seat wouldn't work for me, I was too cramped, but the 2014 RK bars and the aforementioned seat change is perfect for me now. The right seat might save you some $$ vs. forward control mods.
Good luck!
Good luck!
As seats have been mentioned you might consider having yours redone by Mean City Cycles. They have an awesome reputation and (pretty sure) a forum sponsor. Or you could take a look at many of the manufacturers such as Mustang. Have had a couple Mustang seats and have been very happy with them.
