Sometimes Dealers will run (unannounced) tire sales (usually only on the HD Dunlops) I just had both 18" tires replaced on the '09 SERG at Emerald Coast HD, $408. out the door. Before that, Lowcountry HD installed a front for $203 otd.
It pays to call around...
In most cases (with other than OE replacement tires) an Indy will be your best bet...
I just paid $600 for a set of D408/D407 Dunlops to be installed. Next time I'm going to pull the wheel and just have the tire installed. My dealership said they'd mount the tire no problem.
Wow.....42 minutes and chock full of errors, misinformation, lack of information and poor shop practices. Torque specs........caliper - you don't have to get em that tight....snug up up real good, axle - "I know how much to do it" Never mind leaving the full weight of the wheel pulling on the brake rotor and fighting the weight of the wheel instead of using the jack.
Yep, just ordered a front and rear Dunlop American Elite for my 2011 Ultra from Jake Wilson. $315.98 and it was at my door in three days! Plus I'll be getting an additional $50 rebate from Dunlop.
I have a NoMar tire changer (Jr Pro), so installation is done at my convenience.
Done, $332.95 (Edit:from Jake Wilson) with 5ounces dynabeads and applicator. I'll change out the tires myself at my convenience, remove any weights and use the beads. Got a few extra ounces of beads incase lose, drop, spill or sling them across the yard, anticipate it will suck to get the beads through the valve steam. We will see. I appreciate all the info made me consider things I had not thought of. Up to this point the only things I have not done myself is the 1000mile service and dynotune and the recalls
The last time I needed a tire I went to a Honda/Yamaha shop, parked, and let them do everything. When the scooter was returned, the Dunlop tire had "HARLEY" on it. For about 1/2 the stealers price for only a tire.
i found a local Indy shop that mounts and balances the tires for free. I just pay for the tire. I do bring the tire and will in. So i don't pay labor to remove the tire. I would never pay $800 for tire work. Well i paid $900 for my Jeep so i lied.
Jake Wilson $309 with $50 rebate card and free shipping on American Elite front and rear for 2011 street glide. Then $80 to balance from Indy shop after I pulled them.
Thanks for the comments and recommending Jake Wilson for tires, I ordered the tires Wednesday and they arrived Saturday morning. And received an email telling me they had already sent the rebate info to Dunlop and I could expect it in 5-8 weeks.
I already completed a survey online for Jake Wilson and very impressed with there customer service. I had a few questions about Dunlop American elite gen 1,2 and 3, they were more that happy to ask me to hold on and came back with good answers. Gen1 was discontinued and all gen1 tires were removed from stock. The gen2 is bias ply tires and can handle the heave weights of the touring bikes and gen 3 is the radials not recommended for touring on not in touring sizes.
Excellent buying experience and pricing.
With 11,000 mile son my 2012 RGU the rear tire had some tread left but had cupped badly so it howled around corners. I think I let the pressure get low on a trip. The front still has a lot of tread left. The local dealer quoted about $350 for a new OEM Dunlop on the rear, the front would be about $250, plus tax, so over $600.
I had been wathcing eBay and other sources for a set of "new Enforcer wheels, front rotors and tires" I wanted very low mileage. Most were going for $800-$1,200 + shipping. Someone told me about Quantico HD, where they do a lot of customizing of new bikes. Called about a wekk ago, $500 + $100 shipping for a set of 2015 Enforcers, front rotors, and tries, just taken off a bike with basicall no miles. So a set of wheels, rotors and tires for $600, and I have the old wheels and tires to sell. The front is on and I will put on the rear this week. If I get $100-$200 for the old wheels I will be way ahead.
