Default 2009 96" performance help

Hello all.

Picked Up My first Harley 14 days ago. its a 2009 classic with 44000 miles. I have read about 100 pages here so far. whats your thoughts for Me? as I want to make it run better? the bike already has true duals and stage 1 air filter. I have around a grand to spend. was thinking cams and a tuner along with a dyno tune? I also understand from reading here that true duals need higher rpms to make power!

I ride two up 65% of the time. I am a big boy at 6'3" and 285. the Wife is 6' and 190.

Just looking for what works the best. whats you thoughts?

Not sure if it fits your budget, but TW-222s are apparently a great bolt on for the 96, get those and a Power Vision with a map from Fuel Moto and you'd likely be a happy camper.

Heck, you are a short ride from either Fuel Moto or Dragos Bike Works, either would do a great job of installing and tuning.

On cam profiles, the lower the intake duration the stronger the low end grunt, all things being equal. 220* pulls stronger down low than 235* for example.

(And at nearly 500 lbs (rider/passenger) the bike is no doubt exceeding GVWR by a bit so upgraded suspension (rear shocks) would be a goal to consider too.)

With $1000 to spend, you can big bore your bike with a $600 kit. Your heads stay stock, you buy the cylinders / pistons OR you buy the pistons and have your seasoned cylinders honed to match the pistons. Then a good low end cam goes with it. That's parts not labor. Then a retune of the EFI.

My '00 S/E Road Glide came that way from the factory and HP and TQ both ran 30% higher than the stock 88" motor. (85 HP/95 TQ,) You've got the same set up but your stroke is 4.38" vs my 4.00" therefor 96" grows to 103" where mine rune 88" to 95". '07 and later run hotter than the earlier models though so extra expense comes in to keep them cool too.

Just food for thought.

A used set of 100-150 dollar SE 255 cams. On a 96" they rock.
With the weight you're pulling (not poking fun), yeah, 255s would do you mighty fine.

Powervison or PCV with a fuelmoto map and you'll be way under 1000 bucks.

On another note, the other 500 you saved... sooner or later you're going to need a SE Compensator or the new Baker comp coming out. Just FYI.
