Thinking about a performance upgrade
Hey folks,
I'm not crazy about the performance of my 05 Ultra and I'm thinking I'd like some more power.
I've got a 2005 Ultra, with a stage I, (PCwith SE Air andSE slip-ons). I live in MA and do not do any work myself other than add some chrome from time to time. I'm looking for a very good shop fromNH to MA, CT or RI that can talk me through my options. I'm not interested in the bike getting anylouder than itis with the SE's on it. But I do want more pull/power.
I thought I recalled folks talking about a place in NH that was very, VERY good???
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the offer of help Dawg... I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, at least I can't describe it "technically" meaning I can't say I want cams, head work, porting etc.. all the buzz words I read here on these great forums.
What I have is a bike I like a lot. I've got a bit over 12K miles on it. I did the Stage I 'cause everyone said I should. It didn't provide much more in power or at least not enough for me to notice the way I ride. I went with the
SE II's slip on's since I thought other pipes were way to loud. That being said, I don't rev the bike high at all, I ride to and from work, not much highway riding there. But not city streets either. Nights and weekends around here in MA I do hit the highways and will cruise along at 75-80 mph. I guess my issue while riding between 40 - 70 mph is that if I want to hit the gas, I want the bike to move. Not pull the front end off the ground, but move quicker than the
couch she feels like. Know what I mean? In a nut shell, I want to give her more power in the riding rpm range. I'd say back and fourth to work I'm tacking around 2000 - 2500 rpms doing 40 - 50 mph ish. Highway around 75 - 80mph.
Now, I have no idea what my optinos are, or what the cost would be. Keep in mind, I think the SE II slip-ons are too loud as it is. So what ever I do, I don't want her any louder.
I do think that R&R may have been the folks that so many here had great things to say about.
If my babbling here helped dawg, please give me some feedback and perhaps an idea of cost?
thanks again,
Joe

A couple of suggestions, my build on an 03 RKC yielded 102hp, 115 tq, all down low in the RPM band where it was usable and was HD HTCC Heads and HTCC Pistons, bored to 95", Woods TW6G cams, SE AC, PCIII and Rinehart True Duals (loud due to the build). Your pipes will be louder, how much depends on the cams and the compression ratio and added cubic inches. Others on this site ave had great number with kits from Heaquarters and GMR performance which come together as a package. I have used them but have heard only good things.
Key to my build was the cams, designed to work with a particular head design. Even if going with other heads and other parts, call Bob Woods at Woods Performance in Alabama, tell him what you are trying to achieve, with what parts you are using and he will elt you know if one of his cams will work for maximum gains with the parts you are using. I am very partial to Woods cams, and have used them in the build of my 07 Ultra.
Same with Doug at Headquarters, he will advise you with what to use together to achieve the results you want if not using a full Headquarters kit.

Money isn't an issue, I mean I'm not going to spend 5K on it just because I think that's just a bit crazy for more power since I'm NOT a "power nutt". I just don't want her to feel so "sluggish". I could see myself spending 2500.00 - 3500.00 with parts and labor. But, and here's the but. The killer for me will be if the bike get much louder, that will put a stop to this process before it gets started. I listened to a bunch of pipes at my dealer before going with the SE II's and I really, REALLY almost wish I didn't put these on the bike.

Joe
