Default Audio **** Replace ?

Anybody know purpose of the small piece metal pictured to right of **** that came packaged with ****. My '09 Service manual doesn't mention it in replacing.

No idea. The chrome replacements don't have that piece either.

looks like a shim of some kind. Maybe if the stud is worn this will provide added friction to keep it in place.

It fits into the slot made for it in the ****. Helps prevent the **** from being loose, just as Weavr99FLHT said...replaced mine last week...fiddled with it a bit and sussed it out...

It's pretty easy put one on today. The switch shaft is like a half moon shape with knobby rough side & flat side. I inserted the small metal shim inside new **** and pressed it on pretty hard. To know if you're pressed it on far enough you'll have about 3/16" between main switch housing and audio ****.

If you have cruise control, just make certain you get the **** that is for that...it is a different **** than non-cruise models. The model number for cruise-equipped is 71822-98...the larger one for non-cruise is the one the OP pictured...I thought it was 71823-98, but the pic shows a different part number. Very inexpensive, $8.12.
