Default Pushrods on 88

This may be a stupid question but how can I look at each cylinder and know which pushrod is intake or exhaust?

I am just guessing but I would figure that the pushrod pointing towards the exhaust is for exhaust and the one pointing toward the center of the V between the cylinders is the intake.

I am happy to learn something new if I am wrong.

I figured the one at the rear of each jug was exhaust but wanted to be sure.

Well, the exhaust on the front cylinder is in the front, so in my theory the two pushrods in the middle are for intake. I am still waiting for a better wrench to weigh in to see if I am 100% correct.

Outboard, not rear. Inboard or inner two are intake. Outer two are exhaust.

Not a twin-cam, but you'll get the idea:

the ones nearest the exhaust pipes are for the exhaust valves
the ones nearest the carb/FI are for the intake valves

And if you pull them out, the intake is silver and the exhaust is black (darker gray).
