Default All Problem Solvers Welcome!!!

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Electra glide classic with screamin' eagle k&n filter and v&h true duel exhaust.

Unfortunately, my bike is an outside bike but always covered. 2 days ago it rained pretty good and yesterday I went to take the bike to work and it died on me 3 times, refused to start, ran on one cylinder and would shut off when I would come to a stop. Of course, I thought the worst and limped it back to my house. Today, I go outside for ***** and giggles and fire her up. Not only is it idling fine and throttle response is great, but it ripped down the road with zero problems. Like the previous day never happened.

The bike has always been tuned by a Cobra Fi2000 under the seat and it has been great. Some how, the module has been crushed under my seat (noticed this yesterday). So I'm thinking this could be the cause of the bike not wanting to run right. The potential for moisture and water in the connectors and circuit board is pretty good.

Any and all ideas are welcome as to what the issue could be. Also, I'm planning on getting a new tuner anyway but I kinda want to stay away from a tuner with a dongle that is attached to the bike. So I was thinking a screaming eagle tuner, but looking through the new catalog, they don't have anything for my year bike

What say you, experienced tuner people? Any recommendations? Suggestions? I just don't want to get raped by the dealer and I feel like this is something I can do on my own.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You had moisture and it dried out?

Thunder Max is my suggestion. It's a replacement ECM that has many base maps in the software. It will also auto tune it's self to your bike. No need to pay for dyno tunes. I have one on my bike and one on my wife's bike. I've made modifications several times to both bikes that would normally require someone to tune them. The money I've saved on dyno tunes has made them well worth the money and both bikes run great.

Why buy an aftermarket ECM when the stock Delphi unit is fine? Unless I'm building an unforeseen monster in my future, I will never buy a Thundermax.

My neighbor has an '08 with VERY similar circumstances, and also on the Cobra unit. I believe his was stored outdoors it's whole life until he bought less than a year ago.

Take the tank off and check the plugs on the fuel injectors, one of his was dry rotted and cracked. It's on my lift right now getting all that fixed, and new injectors while we're there. We started thinking fuel problem, so after new filter, regulator and filter housing, we moved on to remove the FI2000 cleaned and greased all electrical connections associated with the EFI and intake manifold, and ran great for a couple months, then the symptoms returned with a vengeance.

Also while you're in there, check the rubber cap on the top of the intake, it's there for the California stuff, and not used elsewhere, it can dry rot and cause issues.

Couple things to look at anyways.

The Delphi unit is just fine on a stock or stage one bike. I have a Thunder Max so I don't have to rely on someone else to tune my bike every time I make a change. Good advice from Safety Man on some of the things to check.

That's awesome.

I don't either with the PV2 at half the cost...

And thank you.

I had an issue where my seat would occasionally come into contact with the ecm/delphi connector causing poor connection over time. You could actually see where arcing had significantly eroded the female pin connectors. This winter I replaced every female ecm pin connector and added the seat stand offs that were added to I believe the 2009's. Prior to pin replacement I could wriggle ecm connector and trip codes, cause misfires, and various other anomalies. This was on a 2008 SG which has throttle by wire and is very sensitive to voltage irregularities. My local dealer loaned me the crimp tool for this project.

If you want to look at apples to apples, Fuel Moto lists a Power Vision with auto tune for $779 and a Thunder Max for $849. I guess the PV isn't half the price. The PV piggy backs the stock ECM and the T-Max replaces it. I prefer the cleaner install of the T-Max. Either way is a good option.

Power Vision doesn't piggyback, its a flash tuner.......it CAN be left on but doesn't need to be.
