Recently purchased a K&N 1508 Hd filter to replace my stock air filter. The tech was insistent that it would be very harmful to the engine, so I held off installing it, since I have purchased a dynojet power vision to take care of any EFI issues. I now have all my parts to get her to proceed but, was thinking, if I install the K&N filter and use the stock cover it could not change the volume of air to any great degree. I was wondering if there are any other covers that would fit the stock setup to allow for an increased volume of air?
Should also mention that I will be installing a de- catted header and Rienhart slip ons at the same time.

Hi, I have the exact air filter and I run the stock "football" AC cover - its fine.
There is only so much air that the engine can suck in and the K&N under the stocker will still be able to pull more air then is needed. Save the $ you'd spend on a new cover and spend somewhere else (I'd suggest some Andrews Cams!!)
ride safe, and enjoy the new mods!

Reason: spelling!!
Either open filter or small round chrome filter cover over K&N on '08 FLHT. Zero problems. Ask that tech just exactly how that would be "very harmful to the engine". Stage one installed by dealer when bike was new. K&N was what they installed. Perhaps maybe you shouldn't talk to that tech.BTW, K&N makes excellent air filters. Been running nothing but for many years now with NO problems.

Agreed, I have been using them on all my previous bikes. His exact words were , if you install the filter without their download, I would melt the Pistons, this is my first Harley and thought it very strange, but, hey, the dealer should know best, right?
After investing the cash for the bike, you tend to be careful.
The clown you talked to,was trying to squeeze another couple o' c-notes out of you for a dyno tune. Don't bother. 50,000 miles on the latest K&N,with a stage 3 motor. Zero problems.
I don't want to bust up the "bang on the HD tech" party, but it seems that the tech meant not to install the high flow A/C UNTIL the owner got a Tuner first to correct the AFR...
